About Us
What a softie!!
We became the proud owners of a Leonberger in May 2006 when we collected our 8 week old puppy from her breeder. A tiny ball of fluffiness that could get through the cat flap and through the bars in the garden gate.
Before we chose a Leonberger we did a lot of research - we wanted a big dog, at least Labrador size but preferably bigger, a dog that a was great family dog as we have 4 young children (the youngest at the time being only just 2 years old) so whatever breed we chose had to have an exemplary temperament.
When we first read about Leos we thought that they sounded ideal for us, a large family living in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. A large friendly dog, protective and loyal, with lots of walking right outside the front door.
We spent the next few months reading everything we could about the breed and visiting people who had them. When we finally made the decision we went to see the breeders Grant + Mandy Saggers, of Leonmoor Leonbergers and talked to them about the dogs and as they had a bitch who was pregnant we asked if we could have a pup.
It was quite nice but nerve racking to realise that it was not our choice, but the breeder who would decide if we were a suitable home for one of their puppies, but that is the way it should be, and we were relieved when we were told that we were ok and had our name on one of the pups.
A few weeks later when the pups were born we went down to view them and choose ours out of the litter. To see all the little things running around the whelping pen with mum in and out making sure they were ok was brilliant. At 8 weeks old we went down to pick up our Zoot - that little fluffy thing that could get through the cat flap!
Well, Zoot has grown into a wonderful dog loving friendly and patient, she has mothered our cats and our children and been a great companion for us all. She loves just being with us where ever we are, as long as she's with us she is happy.
Now aged 3 Zoot is a prime age for breeding and we have decided with the support of Zoot's original breeders Grant + Mandy that she should have a litter of puppies of her own.
Zoot's first litter of 11 pups were born on 13 July 2009, which rather nicely is also Mandy's birthday!
